It’s that time of year again! If you’re looking for a guide to some of the best pumpkin patches in north Texas, we’ve got you covered. In the links below, you’ll find everything from free week day outings to fun weekend destinations for the whole family. Bring home a few pumpkins and check out our blog next week for crafts and activities. There’s something about pumpkins that brings out the kid in all of us!

Howell Farms - Arlington, Texas

Howell Farms is a historic property in the Dallas metroplex with a unique twist on the traditional pumpkin patch experience. Pumpkin Nights at Howell Farms includes intricate jack o’ lanterns, pumpkin sculptures, and lighting arrangements. Lots of light up activities for kids, food vendors, and performances make the night patch experience a highlight for many families. Check out their website for more information!

 

Team Family Farms - Aubrey, Texas

September 28th - November 3rd

Tuesday - Sunday 10am - 7pm

This rustic family farm experience comes with a lot more than pumpkins! Kids can feed farm animals, ride on a barrel train, or release some pent up energy on giant hamster wheels. The farm grounds have multiple playgrounds and something for kids of every age. Be sure to bring your camera for lots of photo ops!

Mainstay Farm - Cleburne, Texas

 September 21st - November 3rd

This fall festival has so much going on, you’ll need to check out the website for a full list of everything the farm pass includes! A few attractions include a Texas sized pumpkin barn, a light up “World of Pumpkins” (at night), a field of zinnias, Texas tubin’ hill, and traditional favorites such as sheep racing, hay rides, and mazes. The pass includes access to most activities on the grounds, but there are a few attractions that require additional purchase. The owners call their farm, “The biggest backyard in Texas” and based the name off I Corinthians 15:58.

Harvest Festival - Colleyville, Texas

Saturday, October 19th, 10am - 2pm

This annual event includes a costume contest (for people and pets), trunk or treat, food trucks, and, of course - pumpkins! If you’re looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon that doesn’t cost a lot of money, load up the car and bring the kids to Colleyville! Other highlights of the festival include an inflatable corn maze, scavenger hunt, and crafts.

Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden - Dallas, Texas

September 21st - November 3rd

Visiting the pumpkin display at the Dallas Arboretum is a fall favorite for many Dallas residents. The theme changes every year and this year does not disappoint! Thousands of pumpkins make up a Texas pioneer village, including a general store and a saloon! You might not bring the kids to the saloon, but there are plenty of other photo ops as you walk through history while enjoying everything the arboretum has to offer.

 

The Patch at Trinity United Methodist Church - Denton, Texas

October 1st - October 31st

Monday - Friday: 11am - 7pm / Saturday: 9am - 7pm / Sunday: 12pm - 7pm

Another fun (and free) family pumpkin outing has become well-known to many locals in Denton. Check out Trinity United Methodist’s Facebook page for posts about events on Saturdays such as story times with classic fall books, special guests, and field day games in the evenings. Proceeds from all the pumpkins benefit the church’s ministries for children and youth.

 

Pumpkins on the Prairie - Frisco, Texas

October 1st - October 31st, Closes at 5pm on Halloween

Located at Grace Avenue Methodist Church, Pumpkins on the Prairie hosts fun and educational special events for kids. Most events are free (check the website for special events that require registration). Two unique events worth noting include Pumpkin Cooking (requires registration) and STEAM Day. On STEAM Day, kids can learn about science and technology by launching pumpkins through the air or channel their inner engineer to build a structure using toothpicks and candy corn. If you have a budding scientist, they’ll love using a pumpkin patch as a classroom!

Hall’s Pumpkin Farm & Corn Maze - Grapevine, Texas

This quaint farm property has grown in popularity over the years. Get there before dark to complete an impressive corn maze (included with admission) and fill a vase with beautiful flowers from a small garden. Eat from food trucks, observe all the movements of well loved farm animals, and do a little shopping at an outdoor country store. There are pumpkins and photo ops everywhere, so make sure you’re not walking into someone’s family photo! This pumpkin patch has a small town feel, but the line might wrap around the block!

 

Preston Trail Farms - The Big Orange Pumpkin Farm - Gunter, Texas

According to the website, Preston Trail Farms is all about “Feed, Farm, Family, and Fork,” and you’ll definitely get a generous dose of all four! This family pumpkin farm has over 50 different farm animals. Kids can learn about animals and pumpkins, eat at The Trails Cafe, and participate in farm life with some fun activities (included with admission). During the week kids get a small pumpkin, feed for the petting barn, a hayride, roping pen, and a hay maze. Visiting Preston Trail definitely takes you to a simpler time and place. 

 

Fritz Park Pumpkin Patch - Irving, Texas

Fritz Park Farm is hosting their 4th annual pumpkin patch! A children’s entertainment company has partnered with the city of Irving to provide some affordable weekend fun for local families. Pony rides, pig races, and chicken pumpkin carving are some of the most unique attractions! Your kids can even meet some lemur friends. From food options to being family friendly, this small farm has thought of everything! They even have a private, air conditioned room for nursing mothers with active toddlers.

 

Goober Bub’s Orchard & Bakery - Justin, Texas

This family run farm is named after two grandparents who became beekeepers! Today, they’ve started a u-pick pumpkin patch where kids can pull pumpkins straight from the vine, eat apple cider donuts, and play yard games with friends. This patch is a must visit for anyone who lives in the area! Check out their bakery menu and look forward to some seasonal fall treats while you look for the perfect pumpkin.

Storybook Ranch Pumpkin Patch - Mckinney, Texas

River Ranch Educational Charities is hosting their annual pumpkin patch fundraiser at a new location in downtown McKinney. If you have a creative costume idea, enter your child in the Halloween costume contest for $10 and potentially win a $2,000 scholarship! There are also prizes for second and third place. Bounce houses, a petting zoo, hay mazes, and pony or horse rides are some of the main attractions in addition to the pumpkin patch.

Want to spend the day on 25 acres of shaded farm land covered in pumpkins? Look no further! Voted “Best of Ellis County” four years in a row, Shadow Creek Pumpkin Farm has all the vintage charm you’re looking for in a weekend getaway. A few notable activities include hay hill slides, hay pyramid climbs, and a corn maze. Purchase pumpkins of all shapes, sizes, and varieties for your home while the kids compete at pumpkin bowling or tic tac toe. There’s a lot of charm to this property and everything it has to offer! Blase Family Farm - Rockwall, Texas

Blase Family Farm hosts pick your own blueberries in the summer and a pumpkin patch in the fall. Bring your kids to this wooded property for all the traditional activities pumpkin patches have to offer, plus Spookley the Square Pumpkin storyboards on a forested walking trail. If you have future ambitions of roasting or baking, you can purchase pie pumpkins, and if decorating is more your style, they have a limited supply of straw bales.

Huddin Homestead - Rockwall, Texas

Located just a few miles from downtown Rockwall, Huddin Homestead has a wide array of animals including goats, llamas, alpacas, and camels! A beautiful red barn, cooler temperatures, and an afternoon with plenty of activities for kids will be a breath of fresh air on this small acreage near the suburbs.

Cobbins Family Pumpkin Patch - Sanger, Texas

Cobbins Family Pumpkin Patch is all about community. Certain days in October support homeschoolers, teachers, first responders, and military/veterans. They even have a day to bring your pup to the patch! Activities for children of every age include a toddler village and infant play area, a tire mountain, and train barrel rides. Western Belle Farm - West, Texas

Enjoy cold lemonade, fresh-popped kettle corn, and street tacos while listening to live music and walking around this beautiful family farm outside of Waco. Brandon and Taylor Huffman are fourth-generation farmers who grow specialty crops including sunflowers, pumpkins, and strawberries. A fresh-popped corn maze, pet and feed farm animals, and a pumpkin jump pillow are just some of the many activities at the U-pick pumpkin patch.
